Nicollet, Downtown Minneapolis: Shopping, Dining & Entertainment

Nicollet is downtown Minneapolis’s premier shopping and entertainment district. It is an outdoor pedestrian-friendly walkway lined by restaurants, bars, sidewalk seating, art, designer stores, and independent retailers.

2017 Renovation

In days of yore, horse-drawn wagons parked in front of Nicollet Avenue stores and businesses. Today, the reinvented Nicollet is a vibrant, greener, more scenic place to walk, dine, shop, and relax. More than 1,500 LED lights illuminate generously scaled and clearly marked walkways. There are curb-free intersections, new social spaces, and a curated outdoor public art gallery.

Inspired by the history, identity, and spirit of Minneapolis, Nicollet retains its distinctive curved sidewalks which include new flexible spaces for outdoor cafes and other street activities. Enjoy comfortable seating year-round at Nicollet Center between 6th and 8th streets. Known as the Light Walk, this two-block-long outdoor corridor features programmable lights that make the center a spectacular place for events, festivals, performances and markets.

Nicollet Skyway

The Minneapolis Skyway System offers endless opportunities to streamline your downtown experience. With this indoor, climate-controlled skywalk system and its multitude of second-level bridges that cross Nicollet, you can walk to a host of hot spots for shopping, entertainment, and dining without ever stepping foot outside.

Direct skyway access is available to guests from our downtown Minneapolis hotel. Our guests enjoy convenient, weather-proof access to destinations located throughout 80 city blocks, including top attractions like Orchestra Hall, Target Center, Target Field, U.S. Bank Stadium and more.

Other access points include Crystal Court in the IDS and the flagship Target store at 9th Street.

Skyway Shops and Eateries

Along Nicollet, skyway level eateries (or accessible via skyway) include popular chains like Freshii, Roti, Au Bon Pain, Wich Wich Sandwiches, and more.

The Nicollet skyway corridor is also home to an array of shops like Brooks Brothers, Allen Edmonds, Hubert White, Banana Republic, St Croix Shop, Kisa Boutique, Shop the Runway, Marshalls, JB Hudson Jewelers, and more.

Nicollet Restaurants

With no cars, trucks, and motorcycles roaring by, the sidewalk patios along Nicollet make outdoor dining a delight.

Among the top downtown Minneapolis restaurants are the English-style Brit’s Pub featuring a large rooftop lawn; The Local, a traditional Irish eatery with a long Mahogany bar; and Bario, a vibrant Latin restaurant and tequila bar with a beautiful patio.

Shopping on Nicollet

Shopping can be found at the flagship Target Store at 9th Street and at the 40,000-square-foot Nordstrom Rack inside the IDS building on 7th Street. Saks Off 5th is just one block north in the City Center building. Head over to the Meet Minneapolis Visitor Center and you’ll find handmade work by local artists at the Minnesota Makers shop.
